In 2011, LEGO launched a scheme called LEGO IDEAS worldwide. This scheme allowed LEGO fans and consumers create their ideal LEGO sets. Once the idea got more than 10,000 votes, the LEGO set will be forwarded to the heads of LEGO for the further possible development. After launching, the project has helped more than eight LEGO ideas become successful products (e.g. Ghostbusters set).

LEGO is a popular brand which accompany with many people’s growth (i.e. LEGO toys, LEGO Movies). Obviously, these products endow LEGO brand with vitality, but the breath of ideas for competitions on the internet and website ensures the LEGO fans are kept engaged.

In my opinion, this LEGO digital strategy engaged its customers in a sensory way as many LEGO big fans are dreaming to become the designers for LEGO company and own a LEGO set that are wholly designed and stand for themselves. In this marketing strategy, the crowdsourcing of creative design brings the benefits to company, for example, LEGO gains more designing inspiration and revenue while involving its customers in designing process which can excite customers and keep their loyalty towards the brand.

  1. I’m sure LEGO has a huge following both online and offline. What I love about the brand is that they have managed to grab the attention of people of all ages. While some products may be directed to children, they have the differing levels that are engaging enough for adults too. Ensuring inclusivity is paramount to a company’s success!

    1. Exactly! As I mentioned in the post, it engages its customers in a creative way, more than giving discounts and vouchers these kinds of traditional promotional stuff. It encourages people to design the LEGO’s sets.
